Top 6 Tenby Hotels – Top picks for a staycation in the UK

Perched on a headland with sandy beaches on either side, Tenby is a postcard maker’s dream. Houses are painted from the astel palette of a classic fishing village, interspersed with the white elegance of Georgian mansions. The main part of town is still constrained by its Norman-built walls funneling holidaymakers through medieval streets lined with pubs, ice-cream parlors, and gift shops. Without the tackiness of the promenade and pier beach towns, it tastefully returns to being a sleepy little place in the low season. Where in summer it has a boisterous, holiday-resort feel.

2. The Broadmead Boutique B&B

The Broadmead Boutique B&B

Great B&B experience in Tenby

The Broadmead B&B is located on the east side of Tenby – it means that in order to get to the beach and Tenby’s pastel buildings car would be handy. The property’s building is a country-house with some modern touches  – striped wallpaper, orangery, and quirky art. The character of the hotels is influenced by the owner’s experiences in other hotels. Some influences include oversized, pistachio green dining room tables, or plants with hessian-wrapped pots. When visiting, we recommend a chat with owners who are absolute experts on the best spots and restaurants in Tenby!

The bedrooms are all individually designed and furnished with comfortable beds and crisp bed linen. All rooms have free wi-fi flat screen tv with DVD players & modern bathrooms with power showers.

If you are looking for some extra amenities, The Broadmead offers a library with a variety of books, guides, and DVDs. Additionally, you can arrange a massage in-room.

The main food offering at the hotel is breakfast – and it’s not an average one. Soft muffins, eggs Benedict topped with tangy hollandaise, or a crisp waffle topped with banana and maple syrup. A selection of fruit, cereals, and fresh pastries is laid out in white china and wicker baskets over a long wooden counter. Complimentary Buck’s Fizz is a decadent start to a morning here.

3. Trefloyne Manor

Trefloyne Manor Best Hotels in Tenby

A peaceful retreat in the heart of the  Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Trefloyne Hotel is a four-star boutique property located about two miles away from the center of Tenby. The property occupies a Victorian building featuring rustic and contemporary style and an unpretentious atmosphere, run in a very friendly manner by a Beynon family.

The hotel features 12 rooms decorated in a very pleasant way. Five of the guest’s bedrooms are offered at the lower price cap, however, they are still designed in an appealing way offering views over the gold course. The remaining seven are a bit more spacious, designed in a more stylish, upper-standard way ( the Couch House bedroom offers a luxurious experience with its middle-placed bath – as presented in the photo above). Finally, the Loft offers a sophisticated, modern interior design with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Trefloyne offers its guests a cosy spa with two treatment rooms and a relaxation zone. Moreover, guests can arrange a round of golf ( from £15 per person) or have some fun at the driving range. After a long day, the conservatory restaurant will serve visitors great quality food – running from locally sourced seafood to varied meats and burgers.

4. The Esplanade Guest Accommodation

The Esplanade Guest Accommodation

Waterfront boutique property with an old-fashion character.

Esplanade is a three-star boutique hotel located on the waterfront – right next to Tenby South Beach, and all Tenby’s attractions are located within 10 minute walk. The hotel is a family-run property – owners are available for their guests during their stay and create a very homely, intimate atmosphere. The hotel’s building is a pastel blue colored, part of a four-story row. The hotel’s interiors are a bit old-fashioned but in my opinion, it only adds some extra charm to the overall experience. The lounge area features a red carpet, matching chairs, and a bookcase. There is no parking on-site, however, street parking is available for free.

The Esplanade offers 14 rooms, all individually decorated with old-school interiors – expect a mix of neutral colors, loads of patterns, and wood furniture. Some rooms seem to be a bit more dated – especially those with heavy patterned carpets and ornaments, but on the other hand, some other rooms have some nice elements such as chandeliers or four-poster beds. Amenities are pretty standard – TVs, tea, and coffee-making facilities, bottled water, and biscuits. However, bear in mind that Wi-FI isn’t available in guests’ bedrooms.

The hotel offers an on-site restaurant featuring sea views, where guests can enjoy an afternoon tea and breakfasts included in the rate. Guests are also able to use the WiFi here or in other public areas around the hotel.

5. Atlantic Hotel

Atlantic Hotel

Georgian hotel on the edge of a seaside cliff

The Atlantic Hotel is a 3-star property with a beachfront, seacliff location with views over Tenby’s South Beach. Thanks to its location all Tenby’s attractions are within a walking distance which is a great plus for the hotel. Property’s style is thoroughly elegant, bright, and pleasant mixing modern and classic decor and furnishing. Crystal chandeliers can be spotted in a lounge, and a fireplace adds to the cosiness of the space. The overall character is a little bit old-fashioned yet attractive featuring amenities that should satisfy visiting couple guests.

The hotel offers 42 bright, independently decorated rooms – many of them feature beach views. Bear in mind that the room’s sizes and designs vary – some are more modern and bigger than others. Most rooms come with neutrally colored walls, and white bedsheets, balanced with decor pillows in gold, navy, or green. Some rooms come with elegant chandeliers where others have colorful curtains and dated carpets. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, cookies, and tea- and coffee-making facilities.
Facilities at The Atlantic Hotel include a heated indoor pool, hot tubs, heated loungers, and a steam room, however, bear in mind that there is no gym available in the object. Guests can also relax in a cliffside garden offering a beautiful landscape and a plethora of seating choices. Moreover, from the garden, you can directly access the South Beach using a white stairway down.

Guests can wine and dine in an on-site, independent restaurant The Sale Cellar, located in the basement. The space is divided into two – one for a bit more casual dining experience, and the other is a spacious breakfast room. Well reviewed breakfast offering includes cold and hot buffet.

6. Heywood Spa Hotel

Heywood Spa Hotel Best Hotels in Tenby

Spa hotel loaded with details and chic furnishings

Heywood Spa Hotel is located in a heritage building dating back to the 19th century, however completely renewed in 2015. The property is located a mile away from Tenby’s town center – so the place will be a perfect choice for those looking for a stay full of pampering away from the hustle and bustle of the town center. The hotel’s character is chic with dollhouse-like furniture – which I personally find attractive to the eye.

Almost all of the hotel’s rooms have been recently renovated, and that is to a pretty high standard. Some bedrooms offer a balcony or a terrace, and they all feature basic amenities such as free Wi-Fi, flatscreen TVs, a mini-fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, and a hairdryer.

The highlight of the hotel is its brand-new spa which aside from classic treatments also offers a sauna, whirlpool, and indoor pool. However, to hotel’s fitness center is a little bit disappointing – as there are no windows and machines are very limited. An interesting nuance is an on-site hair salon offering hair and beauty treatments – you can find it near the lobby area.

Finally, guests can find a classy brasserie – known for its fine dining experience including some Welsh specialties. Moreover, guests can grab a cocktail or two in a hotel’s bar – also very stylish with comfortable leather sofas.

What to do in Tenby?

Tenby flourished in the 15th century as a centre for the textile trade, exporting cloth in exchange for salt and wine. Cloth making declined in the 18th century, but the town soon reinvented itself as a fashionable watering place. The arrival of the railway in the 19th century sealed its future as a resort and William Paxton furthery developed a spa here. Here are some of the top tourist attractions in Tenby:

This gracefully restored 15-th century town house is set up as it would have been in its heyday, with colorful wall hangings, period-style beds and kitchen implements. The curators have drawn the lines at recreating the scent of the open cesspit next to the kitchen though.

Connected to Tenby by a seasonal boat service, Caldey Island is home to grey seals, sea birds and a red-topped, whitewashed monastery that houses a community of around a dozen Cisterican monks. Visitors can join a free tour or wander around at their own pace. Make sure you don’t miss Priory Bay, the lightouse, the village museum, the old priory and St Illtyd’s Church with its oddly shaped steeple. Inside is a stone with inscriptions in Ogham (an ancient Celtic script).
