1. Malibu Beach Inn – Malibu

Malibu Beach Inn

A stylish boutique hotel overlooking the Pacific in Malibu.

Located on the Pacific Coast Highway, the hotel is about 20 minutes from downtown Santa Monica and 20 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport. A short walk or drive will take you to the finest shops and restaurants in Malibu. Additionally, your balcony overlooks the Malibu Pier and the ocean, with waves crashing just feet away.

While maintaining an intimate and hip feel, the hotel is modern and minimalist in design. Its small lobby opens directly onto a deck that overlooks the beach. Black-and-white photographs of local spots are common, as are cryptic posters that assert artistic messages. During your stay, staff members welcome you by name and provide complimentary bottled water and cookies. There is no fitness center or swimming pool at the hotel, but there is a Spa Suite that specializes in facials and hot stone treatments. Wireless internet is available throughout the building – as well as on the beach below.

All 47 rooms have stunning ocean views and balconies with tables and chairs that overlook the beach. With custom white oak furniture and fabrics in blues and greys, the rooms are reminiscent of Scandinavian minimalism. Italian linens cover the large and comfortable beds. A gas fireplace and a sofa that can be converted into a bed add a nice touch to this room. The hotel includes amenities such as Nespresso machines and motion-activated lights. It seems the toilet senses your presence: the lid of the toilet rises spookily when you enter, and the seat of the toilet gets warmer.

The restaurant is on a raised deck above the beach so all the tables have ocean views – the hotel’s breakfast is excellent.

A mini-guide through Malibu’s neighborhoods:

Corfu is a place rich in diversity. There are pockets of busy resorts, located in particular in the north of Corfu Town. On the same note the island is big enough to escape the crowds and venture up its woody mountains, explore vertiginous villages, coves fringed by cobalt-blue water, and the fertile interior that shimmer with olive groves. To help you understand more of the neighborhoods here’s a simple guide to walk you through Corfu:

Carbon Beach (Eastern Malibu)

For those only with a few hours to spare in Malibu, Carbon Beach in eastern Malibu is a good option. It’s the closest to Los Angeles and Santa Monica, and it’s where most of the fun-in-the-sun activities occur. There are a number of Instagram-worthy spots in the Carbon Beach area, including the Malibu Farm café which is popular with visitors. Surfrider Beach, next door, is a great place to catch some waves if you’re an advanced surfer. Stand-up paddle boards can also be rented at the Pier or you can rent them there.

Point Dume (Central Malibu)

Point Dume is a great place to see Malibu’s natural wonders. Starting your day hiking at Point Dume Nature Preserve will give you a chance to see the ocean every step of the way, along with taking you to the beach. However, if you just want to relax on the beach, you can bring your own gear to Westward Beach and order food from The Sunset Restaurant, or go full-service at Paradise Cove Beach Café. Due to its residential character, Point Dume isn’t Malibu’s most popular nightlife area. In contrast, south of the point, there is Geoffrey’s, a chic oceanfront restaurant with panoramic ocean views from its outdoor terrace.

Zuma (Western Malibu)

For a beach day in Malibu, there’s no better spot than Zuma Beach in Western Malibu. Beach volleyball, picnic tables, and food stands to accompany the nearly two miles of sand and surf. Bring an umbrella to stay cool during the day and a sweatshirt to keep warm at night.

Malibu Wine Country

You may wonder if you are even in California after you arrive at The Barn at Cielo Winery up in the mountains. The 30-acre estate has panoramic views of the Malibu Hills and was designed to resemble a Tuscan villa. Visitors to the Barn can taste wine, charcuterie, and pizza while dining outdoors in a wine-tasting ‘room’.
