11 BEST BOUTIQUE HOTELS IN LANZAROTE

Lanzarote is a small island, but it packs a lot of contrasts into a limited space. From the awesome, unearthly Montañas del Fuego in the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya to the verdant ‘Valley of a Thousand Palms’ around Haría; from the tranquillity of La Graciosa to the razzmatazz of Puerto del Carmen, there is always something to surprise the visitor. One thing is consistent, however: the building limits proposed by artist César Manrique and imposed by the island. The government has ensured that, with a few exceptions, the architecture consists of low white buildings with green, blue, or brown balconies and shutters, which complement the indigenous architecture of the island.

What are the best places to stay in the Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a small island, but it packs a lot of contrasts into a limited space. From the awesome, unearthly Montañas del Fuego in the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya to the verdant ‘Valley of a Thousand Palms’ around Haría; from the tranquillity of La Graciosa to the razzmatazz of Puerto del Carmen, there is always something to surprise the visitor.

ARRECIFE

Arrecife is a small, manageable city with a pleasant Mediterranean-style promenade, an inviting sandy beach, and – it has to be said – a disarming. A backstreet hotchpotch of sun-bleached, peeling buildings, elegant boutiques, rough bars, and good (and bad) restaurants. The sights are scarce, yet interesting, and include a couple of castles, a fashionable
cultural center and a pretty lagoon

In this area of Lanzarote, you will find:

  • Museum of a Contemporary Art
  • Charco de San Ginés Lagoon
  • San Gabriel Castle
  • Playa del Reducto

PUERTO DEL CARMEN

Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote’s biggest resort. Its splendid beaches, Playa Grande and Playa de Los Pocillos, and the less popular Playa Matagorda (closest to the airport), extend eastwards for 6km (4 miles) from the little fishing harbor that was the heart of the original village. Until the 1970s this was just a quiet fishing community, and the area around
the pretty harbor retains its village atmosphere. There is a little church here,
Nuestra Señora del Carmen, but you will only find the doors open for Mass over the weekend. There are numerous fish restaurants, too, mostly with excellent views.

In this area of the Lanzarote, you will find:

  • Playa Grande
  • Playa Los Pocillos
  • Puerto Calero Marina

COSTA TEGUISE

This is a purpose-built holiday resort, built on a grid system, with bustling
shopping centers, family-geared beaches, and watersports, as well as plenty of bars and restaurants

In this area of the Lanzarote, you will find:

  • Lanzarote Aquarium
  • Playa de los Charcos
  • The Centro Comercial Las Cucharas

PLAYA BLANCA

This is Lanzarote’s third resort, smaller, quieter, and more upmarket than the other two. It used to be a flourishing fishing village and retains something of that atmosphere, even as it has expanded.

In this area of Lanzarote, you will find:

  • Marina Rubicón Port
  • Playa Dorada
  • Playa Blanca
