1. Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino – Oranjestad

5 STAR

Best Hotels in Aruba: Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino

Pure bliss starts with peace of mind

Citing the Queen of Holland and Monaco’s royal family among past guests, this is one of Aruba’s most exclusive hotel complexes. It comes with an All Inclusive option, too.

This 40-acre resort provides a choice of two hotels. There’s the adults-only Renaissance Marina Hotel, and the family-friendly Renaissance Ocean Suites, which sit on opposite sides of the marina, about a five-minute walk apart. With a private island, chandelier-lit casino and designer shops, this place has all the trimmings for a luxury getaway.

The rooms at both Ocean Suites and the Marina underwent renovations in 2015, and now combine bold, modern style with sharp vintage details to create rooms that have a tasteful bit of glam pizzazz. Expect to see lots of warm wood tones in everything from sleek contemporary storage units to retro chairs plus an abundance of ocean blues and accents like island-postcard wallpaper in the closets in some rooms. The starburst pattern carpet in each room is another throwback design choice that feels fresh, while collections of vases and other objets d’art give higher-category rooms even more personality.

When it comes to facilities, guests can never get bored – there is a large fitness center and a jogging trail offered to guests, as well as three beautiful pools, scuba diving and kayaking are also offered.

Thre 8 dining options available on-site, Aquarius and the Papagayo Bar & Grill serve fine international cuisine. Guests can also enjoy L.G. Smith’s Steak & Chop House or Midnight Grill and BLUE. Fresco, Sole and Mangrove Beach Bar are available for additional dining options.

ARUBA – BEST HOTELS MAP

What is the best area to stay in Aruba?

The smallest of the ABC islands – only 30km long and barely 100,000 residents – ARUBA receives more than one million visitors a year who come to indulge in the glitz associated with its luxurious beachside resorts, elegant restaurants, boutiques, vibrant 24-hour nightlife and casinos and enjoy its seemingly endless supply of white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. As a result, it can feel rather crowded and, at times, a little lacking in soul. The harbourside capital Oranjestad attracts many of the visitors, as do resortfilled Eagle and Palm beaches just north of town. In stark contrast to these glamorous areas, the rugged interior is dotted with stands of cacti, twisted divi divi trees and herds of wandering goats. In the Mars-like landscape of Arikok National Park, mysterious boulders painted with ancient petroglyphs and limestone caves are sights worth catching.

ORANJESTAD

Named in honour of the Dutch Royal House of Orange, Oranjestad has been Aruba’s capital and main port since 1797. Today, the small harbour attracts schooners, fishing boats and cruise ships from all over the world. The tiny capital on the southwest shore bustles with activity as thousands of visitors descend upon it each day to shop, dine or try their luck at one of the many casinos. The streets that make up the downtown core are lined with modern imitations of pastel-coloured Dutch colonial houses; a good number of them have been renovated into shopping complexes, administrative buildings, museums and restaurants.

In this area of Aruba, you will find:

  • L.G. Smith Boulevard
  • Fort Zoutman
  • Bon Bini Festival

EAGLE BEACH AND PALM BEACH

Eagle Beach is the largest and most popular sandy stretch along this excellent strand, offering plenty of shade and watersports activities. Several low-rise hotels allow beach-goers to eat and drink at their restaurants and bars. Divi Winds  offers windsurfing and sailing lessons, and rents boards, kayaks and snorkelling gear. A few kilometres north on J.E. Irausquin Boulevard is Palm Beach, known for its luxurious high-rise resorts and more superb watersports. De Palm Tours operates a pier here from which many of their water-based tours and activities originate. The surrounding shallow waters and long stretches of clean sand are very popular with families. It gets crowded at weekends and holidays, during which
time food stalls selling local dishes are set up.

NORTHWEST COAST

If high-rise hotels and crowded casinos are not your thing, that’s OK. Just take the coastal road north – all the way north – where it’s lined with gracious homes and small but stellar beaches. This stretch is perfect for snorkeling, bodysurfing
and sunset viewing, giving way eventually to a magnificent and foreboding landscape of sand dunes and wild waves.
These stunning natural surroundings are your destination for windsurfing at the Fisherman Huts, snorkeling at Malmok Beach, swimming at Arashi Beach or hiking in the California Dunes. Yet, it’s only a few miles north of Palm Beach –
so when you get bored or tired or hungry or thirsty, it’s a quick trip to the comforts and conveniences of civilization.
